Hello! It’s been a hot minute here on the blog.
I’ve spent the first bit of 2023 finalizing, publishing, and distributing my book …
Then appearing at the White Coat Investor Physician Wellness and Financial Literacy Conference to talk about the concepts, share the book, and lead some meditations for busy physicians …
Then some busy shifts in the OR …
And now I’m finally starting my own podcast! While I love podcasts and consume them frequently myself, I’ve hesitated with starting my own. It’s a whole new medium to learn, and I wasn’t so sure I what I would talk about.
Well now I know.
While writing Lean Out, I had the idea to showcase other women professionals. I wanted to find women who’ve made courageous moves against the status quo and the Lean In culture to carve out their own work-life balance against the odds. So I set out to interview women doing unique things in their respective professions.
Author and habits expert James Clear admits the thing he underestimated most about habit change is the importance of social environment. The more your habits go with the grain of your different social groups and the tribes you belong to, the more attractive it is to continue doing them. On the flip side, if you’re trying to make a change and the behavior happens to go against your what is typically seen in your environment, it’s going to be more challenging to get to the place you want to be.
It hit me that physicians and other high-achieving professionals have our own tribes and cultures driving our behaviors. So what happens when what you want, how you want your work-life balance to look, etc. doesn’t really align with what others around you are doing?
What I’m offering to you is this.
Let this podcast be that supportive environment. Voices, conversations, and ideas of like-minded women who all want something more than the status quo.
I hope you enjoy it! Please have a listen to this first interview with fellow physician, coach, and friend Kara Pepper.
