“I started looking around and seeing things that I was missing.”
“I can still be a surgeon and not work as much. I can still be a surgeon and get the respect, get the support around me, but actually build a life outside of work as well.”
“Doors are opening and doors are closing for all the good reasons, and I’m gonna continue to go with that flow. I’m gonna go where it makes me feel happy.”
“it’s okay to say no to things that don’t serve you and don’t make you happy and don’t make you the best version of yourself.”
These are all quotes from my conversation with Dr. Chrissy Guidry on the Lean Out Podcast. Chrissy is a trauma and critical care surgeon who started her career on the traditional path of an academic physician. Inspired by her experiences on her fertility journey, she took a hard look at how she was spending her time and decided to add more things that bring her joy.
Chrissy currently has a role as a leader for physician wellness at her local academic institution, but she focuses her clinical time doing locum tenens surgery at smaller hospitals in the southeast. She has also added a new passion: a community of education and support for healthcare professionals who would like to optimize their mind, body, and soul through clean living practices.
We discuss her wakeup call for getting off the academic treadmill, her ongoing fertility journey, and her best tips for a healthy mind and healthy body. I hope you enjoy this wisdom-packed conversation!
