Have you ever found yourself in a workplace where your values don’t mesh with the values of others around you? How did it affect you – physically, mentally, or otherwise?
In her book Daring Greatly, Brene Brown said, “The space between our professed values and practiced values is where burnout lives.” We don’t have to share characteristics with all our coworkers, but it’s possible to be in a work situation where you feel really out of place – and that can be detrimental.
If you’re truly in a place of values mismatch, you might need to lean out… soon.
My guest on this week’s Lean Out Podcast left her job, left her advocacy role, and moved across the globe after being in a situation of values mismatch. She is now helping women in a non-clinical fashion through coaching, by supporting the development of her clients’ intuition and emotional intelligence.
Orisa B. Water is a physician, psychedelic medicine expert, coach, and spiritual guide. She helps high-achieving women heal emotional wounds, set boundaries, and align with their highest purpose. After working as an anesthesiologist in traditional settings and advocacy for psychedelic medicine, Orisa found herself in a place of values mismatch with her medical practice. She left medicine to live internationally and serve women in a remote coaching role.
In this episode, we discuss Orisa’s journey in and out of clinical medicine, her realization that she needed to leave an unfulfilling work environment, and what it’s like to live and work outside the US. She shares lessons about knowing your value and tapping into your resources – things anyone can benefit from!
