What would you do if you realized your passion didn’t lie in your chosen profession but in something entirely different?
Let’s say you’re a doctor. You take a sabbatical or a leave of absence, and during that time you realize you have gifts and talents in graphic design and digital communication. Then what do you do?
This is what happened to my guest on the most recent Lean Out Podcast: Dr. Dana Corriel. Only she still has an interesting presence in the medical world.
Dana is an internal medicine physician turned digital entrepreneur. She transitioned out of clinical medicine after recognizing both a skill in digital design and the need for more professionals to create online. She has since infused her passion into her own personal website drcorriel.com and her online platform SoMeDocs, which aims to showcase verified physicians so the world can quickly connect with them.
In our conversation, I ask Dana why she created SoMeDocs, how she transitioned out of clinical medicine and the repercussions she felt when doing so, plus what we need to watch out for when sharing online as professionals. Because she has stories…
Dana has a clear passion for a creating a beautiful digital page. She also loves promoting and showcasing other physicians. Lastly, she has a conviction for the free and open exchange of ideas.
The biggest takeaway from this one, in my opinion: Don’t operate in an echo chamber. Being around people who always agree with you is a recipe for stagnation. We grow through discourse and challenging ideas, and the online space is a permanent part of our discussion landscape. Everyone has a voice in her SoMeDocs community.
