W2 has perks. Benefits, admin support…
W2 is safe (Or is it?).
What if you want to practice your profession on your terms? Spend as long as you want with clients.
W2 has constraints.
My guest on the Lean Out Podcast this week is Aimee Lowe. Aimee has been described by a good friend as “Nobody’s W2.” Born with an entrepreneurial spirit, Aimee paid her dues for years at law firms – big, small, and in-house. She worked 18-20 hours per day proving her worth… only to realize she was a slave to the billable hour.
It took giving a talk to potential clients at a major conference for Aimee to realize she wasn’t practicing what she preached. Two weeks later, she left the firm where she was about to be made partner. A few hours after that, she had started her own firm.
In our conversation, Aimee shares all the ups and downs of divorcing yourself from an entrenched W2 position. Bottom line: the benefits have far outweighed the negatives. Anyone who dreams of branching out on their own to practice law, medicine, finance, or any profession will find this interview inspiring!
