It’s the little things that often add up to something big.
Have you ever heard of the snowball effect? You change one tiny habit, and it snowballs into an entire overhaul of your life. Example: the person who’s never been an exerciser takes up a sport.
She hires a coach and joins a group. The community inspires her. She schedules regular practice into her life. All of a sudden, she’s prioritizing sleep so she can recover properly for practice. She starts strength training on the side so she can improve mobility and prevent injury. She doubles down on nutrition and stops eating junk so her body is properly fueled. Etc, etc…
Her identify shifts.
This kind of snowball can happen with work-life balance, too.
My guest on today’s Lean Out Podcast is Dr. Santina Wheat. Santina is an academic family physician who finds joy in helping others unlock their full potential. She also serves as a career and life coach, guiding physicians and healthcare workers from burnout to balance. Having navigated her own career challenges, she understands the power of mentorship and intentional growth.
Tina found herself in a rut of saying ‘yes’ to every ask. She even interpreted urgent requests as ‘must be done within 2 days.’ She was overwhelmed and burned out.
But then, she decided to do something crazy:
She toggled the Do Not Disturb button on her phone.
And it all snowballed from there.
In our conversation, we discuss boundaries, teaching trainees about boundaries, and simple systems you can put in place today to make your life feel more balanced.
What is one simple little step you can take today to improve your work-life balance? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below!
