Are you wanting to lean way out from your field of expertise? What if your passion is met with skepticism?
My guest on the most recent Lean Out Podcast is Dr. Tracy McCarthy. Tracy is a psychiatrist and a functional medicine physician certified by the Institute of Functional Medicine. She owns her own private functional medicine practice in northern California. Tracy focuses on helping adults with depression, anxiety, brain fog, fatigue, digestive issues, and hormonal imbalances by identifying and addressing the overlooked causes of these chronic health symptoms.
You can imagine that Tracy’s chosen path is not lauded by all physicians or psychiatrists. She dealt with uncertainty and skepticism by making her transition out of conventional psychiatry slowly. Key actions for her were also focusing on excellent functional medicine training and education, working on her mindset, and fostering a like-minded community.
In our conversation, we discuss Tracy’s slow transition to independent functional medicine private practice, how she trained in functional medicine, developing your bespoke own community, and the many tradeoffs that come with entrepreneurship. Tracy shares that when it comes down to it, she feels so much more purpose and fulfillment with her current work situation than ever before.
