What does joy mean to you?
Where do you find it in your life?
My most recent guest on the Lean Out Podcast has made it her mission to seek and spread joy. Tiffany Moon, MD is a mother, wife, entrepreneur, anesthesiologist, and TV personality. Her anesthesiology career is decorated with numerous publications and talks related to her research, in addition to administration of oral board examinations for the American Board of Anesthesiology.
The other side of Tiffany loves to express creativity and humor on social media, and she is heavily involved in local philanthropy. She is also the author of the new book Joy Prescriptions: How I Learned to Stop Chasing Perfection and Embrace Connection.
In our conversation, Tiffany reminds us that joy comes from within and not from any sort of external circumstances or awards. She discusses her realization that years of perfectionism left her playing small and staying in unhappiness. She also shares her best advice for how busy, high-achieving professionals can seek out joy in their own lives.
It took years and lessons and getting out of her comfort zone trying new and difficult things in order for Tiffany to let go of her need to achieve at all costs. We also discuss her adventures in TV, entrepreneurship, planning a large women’s conference, and finding the courage to negotiate a part-time work schedule.
What’s one thing you can do today that takes you out of your comfort zone? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below!
