Flexibility is not about bending and bowing to outside forces.
Flexibility is about initiating a bend, a “leaning out” if you will, from the well-worn path on your own terms.
My guest on the most recent Lean Out Podcast is Dr. Asha Padmanabhan. Asha is an anesthesiologist, leader, coach, and speaker who delivers workshops, grand rounds, and keynote presentations for healthcare audiences. With more than 20 years in high-stakes operating rooms and leadership roles at state and national levels, she understands the real pressures physicians face — especially women navigating invisible expectations. Through her speaking and coaching, she provides practical tools to strengthen communication, confidence, and professional sustainability. Her work helps physicians reclaim their voice and thrive — in medicine and beyond.
In our conversation, Asha shares how she became an accidental leader while working full time in a busy private practice. We talk about her recent separation from some of her well-worn identities and roles – a move she made so she could have a more flexible schedule.
Asha left a steady, reliable private practice to explore locum tenens travel work, which affords her ample time to spend with her aging mother and growing children. But of course, as always, she recognizes some tradeoffs with her current choices. I’m sure you’ll resonate with the push and pull to continue a career in a field you enjoy, while pursuing other activities (and people) you also love.
