As a physician, I’ve experienced the multiple contributors to the epidemic of burnout in the medical profession…
- EMRs
- Defensive medicine
- Prior authorizations
- The erosion of trust between doctor and patient…
And as a person navigating my 50’s, I’ve experienced the shortcomings of our healthcare system by being a patient.
Have you? If you haven’t, you will.
My guest on the Lean Out Podcast is Dr. Jordan Grumet. Jordan is an internal medicine and hospice physician who first shared his thoughts with the world through blogging, specifically focusing on financial independence and wellness. I met him when he went by a pen name, Doc G. Since then, he’s broken out of anonymity to publish three books, give multiple keynote speeches, and host an award-winning podcast.
Jordan’s work includes Taking Stock, The Purpose Code, and most recently The Healthcare Heist: How Physicians and Patients Can Unite to Transform Healthcare. While Jordan appeared on the podcast in the past to tell us all about purpose, we focus on his most recent book in this conversation.
This episode is for everyone, because we will all be patients. It’s important to understand the complex, myriad factors at play making our US medical system the mess that it is. But all is not lost; Jordan tells us through historic examples how shared storytelling between the most important stakeholders (doctors and patients) will rehabilitate our system for good.
Have you had an experience dealing with the problems of our healthcare system? What happened? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment below, and make sure to buy the book Healthcare Heist!
