Many of us high-achieving professionals have followed a very prescribed path to success.
Good grades. Degree with honors. Professional school. The career ladder that is expected and revered.
Imagine leaving that path to venture onto one that isn’t well described.
A gray zone.
That’s exactly what my guest on today’s Lean Out Podcast did after her retirement from traditional medicine.
Wendy Schofer MD is a dual-board certified pediatrician and lifestyle physician, in addition to being a trauma-informed parenting coach specializing in eating disorder prevention for family members of all ages and sizes. She retired from a career in Navy Medicine in 2021 and as Founder of Family in Focus®, is on a mission to help 1 million families build the social-emotional skills that strengthen relationships with food, body, and especially each other.
In our conversation, we discuss Wendy’s retirement from the Navy and transition to a much more nebulous practice. You can imagine that her old world was filled with rules and prescribed paths. Now, she’s started a coaching-based practice in a difficult to define niche, and yet she’s loving it.
Wendy and I also discuss the common and yet elusive topic of navigating uncertainty, and Wendy surprises me with her tools for dealing with it. You’ll have to listen below (or watch on YouTube) to find out what they are!
